Questions and Answers About Donating

Why do you need my support?

Every contribution – big or small - helps us to improve the life of another person in our community. Supporting Lydia's House is an investment in people, the neighborhood and the future. Your contributions help us improve the quality of life for the District's citizens who find themselves most in need of assistance. Your dollars are used to support educational and social services in addition to the housing needs of the families we serve.

How can I be sure that you will use my money wisely?

Lydia's House is maintained and monitored by a strong system of checks and balances. Executive Director, Patrice Sheppard, manages the day-to-day operations of Lydia's House, including program services and administration. The Board of Directors provides overall direction and often participates in program activities to lend their individual personal and professional expertise.

The internal and external accounting policies and procedures of Lydia's House adhere to the Financial Standard Accounting Board regulations 116, 117 governing non-profit accounting. The organization is also audited by a certified public accountant, Walker and Company, each year to ensure financial integrity.
